Getting to Universal Studios Japan
If you’re ever in Osaka, visiting Universal Studios Japan (USJ) should be at the top of your list. Getting there from the Osaka Loop train line is surprisingly easy, and takes 20 minutes from Kyobashi Station, which is near Osaka Castle. You just go to Nishikujo Station, hop on the JR Yumesaki Line and get off at Universal-City Station.
Getting the Passes
Once you arrive, you pass through a road of vibrant shops and restaurants to get to the park. On my visit, I decided to buy a yearly pass instead of a regular day ticket. The yearly pass costs about 20,000 yen (about $185 CAD), which is a great deal if you plan to visit more than once. It does have blackout days, meaning you can’t enter the park on some of the popular days, but it’s still worth it if you’re staying in Japan for a while and can go on the weekdays. Alternatively, you can get a regular day pass, which is 8,600 yen for adults and 5,600 yen for children 12 years and younger. There are also 1.5-day and 2-day passes, which are perfect if you want to explore the park without rushing, and they’re cheaper than buying two separate day passes.
Crowds and Atmosphere
I went on a Friday evening, and the park was packed! A lot of people were there for the Halloween event, which is very popular. The park is filled with zombies, clowns, and creepy dolls roaming around, scaring people and creating a spooky but fun atmosphere. The park was so crowded that it was difficult to walk at times, especially when everyone was gathering and stopping to see the horror characters in action. A lot of the students and younger crowds had matching outfits or were dressed up in character costumes. It was so cute!
The Rides
If you’re a fan of rides, be prepared to wait. The lines for the attractions ranged from 40 to 120 minutes. However, the waiting is softened by not having to stand in one place for a long time. The lines were moving the entire time, so it didn’t feel as long. If you’re a thrill-seeker, the long waits are worth it for the rides.
Final Thoughts
USJ is an amazing experience, whether you’re visiting for a day or plan to go multiple times with a yearly pass. Just be prepared for the lines and crowds, especially during peak times. And don’t forget to join in on the fun by dressing up or coordinating outfits with friends!
If you’re in Osaka and looking for a good time, USJ is the place to be! I can’t wait to go again with my year pass!
