Summer sonic – What is summer sonic? Buying the tickets.
Hello! I’m A. I am currently on exchange in Osaka, Japan. I wanted to write about my experiences here as an exchange student from Canada. I am on a full exchange at Kansai Gaidai University. I will be living in Osaka for five months, studying Japanese!
I wanted to write about my experience at Summer Sonic, a music festival in Osaka. This was my first music festival! I was so excited to go and see Japanese and foreign artists perform.
What is Summer Sonic?
Summer Sonic is a two-day music festival, held simultaneously in Osaka and Tokyo. The festival features artists from abroad and Japan. Previous artists include Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, and The Chainsmokers. This year, it was from August 17th to August 18th.
Buying the tickets
I bought tickets from the official site of summer sonic at the end of March. I wanted to buy them early in case they sold out (which they did in June). I ended up going with the two day ticket, which cost 35,310 yen, or about $329 CAD. I bought them through a platform called e+, which can be used by anyone who isn’t from Japan. The process was pretty easy, and it was all in English.
Getting the tickets
To get the physical tickets needed to enter the festival, I went to a 7/11 near my hotel I was staying at. This was in the initial email I got when I bought the ticket:
This is the email I received two days before the festival date:
You can either show the ticket barcode to a staff member at the 7/11 and have them print the ticket out for you, or use one of the ticket machines to print it out.
